| Breaking News |  | Merritt Cops #1 Pitcher Award in August
Wednesday, September 1st, 2010: Phil Merritt really strutted his stuff in August with 5 wins and 1 loss and walked off with the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Appalachian League. The Danville starter was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition.
In 44.1 innings of work, Merritt limited opposing batters to 26 base hits and a .167 batting average. He totaled 40 strikeouts, issued 8 walks and had a 1.42 ERA.
This year Merritt has compiled a 10-2 record with a 2.03 ERA in 13 starts.

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010: Luis Rea relied on a .445 average to capture the Appalachian League Batter of the Month trophy. He had a good August, going 49 for 110.
He finished with 6 home runs and 30 RBIs, scored 21 runs and had a .504 on-base percentage.
This year Rea is batting .335 with 6 home runs.

| Hit Streak Now at 20 for Rea
Tuesday, August 31st, 2010: "Things went well for me today. I got 1 hit and the streak is up to 20 games. But we didn't win the game. As you all know, baseball is not about personal accomplishments, its about winning." Those words were spoken by Luis Rea of the Kingsport Mets to BNN after his club dropped a 5-3 decision to Greeneville.
Luis Rea singled in the 1st, walked in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th, flied out in the 8th and struck out in the 10th.
Thus far this season Rea is hitting .335 with 6 home runs, 44 RBIs and 39 runs scored. He has 87 hits in 260 at-bats and has played in 65 games.
